Maglev has been designed for rapid passenger movements; not movements of heavy, dense, freight traffic. Maglev has potential for light, high-value, freight not heavy bulk commodities. Conventional, upgraded, rail offers the best opportunity for improved operations with the greatest flexibility for what to ship and where.
